What Parts Work Together?

Telescopes are fascinating because they bring the distant universe into focus. But how do these tools work together to look at faraway planets and stars? A telescope primarily consists of two main parts: lenses or mirrors. The main lens or mirror collects light and focuses it into a point. This focused light is then magnified by the eyepiece, which enlarges the image so we can see it in detail. If one part, like the main lens, breaks or is smudged, the entire image becomes blurry or faint, making it hard to see details.

🔧 Try This: Use a magnifying glass and a flashlight. Shine the light through the magnifying glass onto a wall. What do you see? What if you move the glass closer or further? What do you notice?

Visualize: Imagine looking through a telescope. Sketch a telescope in its parts: the main lens or mirror, and the eyepiece. What happens if the lens is dirty or missing?
