How crane cars lift heavy trains — Part 3: How crane cars lift heavy trains — Part 3: Limits, Trade-offs, and Open Questions
Section 1 of 6
What Limits Exist?
What are the fundamental constraints when lifting trains with crane cars? Crane cars are powerful, but they have limits. One major limit is weight. Just like we can't lift a rock that's too heavy for us, crane cars have a maximum weight they can lift. If a train is too heavy, the crane car can't do its job. Another limit is space. Cranes need room to maneuver. Imagine trying to swing a long stick in a crowded room without hitting anything! Cranes need to avoid obstacles to work efficiently.
🧠 Pause & Think: What happens if a train is heavier than the crane can lift?
⚖️ Choose: Would you build a crane that lifts more weight but needs more space to operate, or one that's less powerful but fits in small spaces? Why?
