How crane cars lift heavy trains — Part 2: How crane cars lift heavy trains — Part 2: How It Works

Section 1 of 6

What Parts Work Together?

Imagine a crane car like a big metal arm on a train track! But how does it lift heavy train cars? The crane car has three important parts: the arm, the hook, and the platform. The arm reaches out and moves around to pick up things. The hook attaches to what needs to be lifted, and the platform keeps everything steady. The engine powers the crane and moves it along the tracks.

🧠 Pause & Think: What do you think would happen if the crane arm couldn't move?

Each part has to work together. Without the engine, nothing would move. If the hook wasn’t there, the crane couldn’t hold onto anything! Just like teamwork in a soccer game, each part of the crane car must do its job.

🔧 Try This: Use a string, a spoon, and a toy to pick something up. How does the spoon work like a crane hook? What do you notice?
