How small animals outsmart their predators — Part 3: How small animals outsmart their predators — Part 3: Limits, Trade-offs, and Open Questions

Section 1 of 6

What Limits Exist?

Small animals often have to deal with bigger and faster predators. How do these limits affect their survival? Unlike larger animals, small creatures can't rely on brute strength. They might be fast, but they can't outrun everything. Take a mouse, for example, which can't outpace a hawk swooping down from the sky. So, they need to find other clever ways to survive. This could mean hiding, blending into their environment, or doing things at night when predators can't spot them easily.

🧠 Pause & Think: Why is being small both an advantage and a disadvantage?

⚖️ Choose: Would you rather be: A. Quick but fragile B. Sturdy but slow Why?
