How small animals outsmart their predators — Part 2: How small animals outsmart their predators — Part 2: How It Works

Section 1 of 6

What Parts Work Together?

Imagine a small bird trying to escape a hungry cat. Which parts of this escape system work together to help the bird get away? Birds have sharp eyes to spot danger and quick wings to fly out of reach. Their light bones help them soar easily, and their bright feathers can sometimes confuse predators. These adaptations are like a team working together.

🧠 Pause & Think: What do you think would happen if birds couldn't fly?

It's interesting to think about how each feature supports the others. For example, fast wings wouldn't help much if the bird couldn't see the cat coming! All these elements combine to create a smart defense strategy.

🔧 Try This: Pretend you're a small animal. Hold a small pillow and try to duck under a table quickly like you’re avoiding a predator. What do you notice?
