How to make a perfect basketball shot — Part 3: How to make a perfect basketball shot — Part 3: Limits, Trade-offs, and Open Questions

Section 1 of 6

What Limits Exist?

Have you ever wondered why making a perfect basketball shot isn't easy all the time? One big reason is that the hoop is always the same size, and the ball needs to fit through it just right. You can't make the hoop bigger, so the challenge is figuring out how to aim the ball well. Another limit is the distance from where you shoot. The farther away you are, the harder it is to make the shot. Imagine trying to throw a pebble into a small pot that's really far away. You need to throw it just right for it to land inside. Plus, there's the height of the player and their jumping ability, which can affect the shot. Not everyone can jump super high, and not everyone is tall. These limits mean that players need to rely on skill and practice to work with what they have. So, even though you can’t change the hoop or the court, learning to control your aim and strength makes all the difference.
