What Parts Work Together?
Have you ever wondered how the Roman aqueducts supplied water to their cities? The Roman aqueduct system had several parts working together like a team. Aqueducts were like big stone bridges and tunnels that carried water from far-away rivers and lakes to the towns. Picture them like water slides at a fun park, but they carried clean water instead. Key parts included the source of the water, often a river or spring, the channels that transported the water, and the main pipes that delivered it to the city. At the city, water flowed into reservoirs, which acted like giant storage tanks, keeping water until it was needed. Engineers built arches and tunnels to keep the water flowing downhill using gravity, without needing pumps. Just as gears and wheels make a bicycle go, these parts made sure water reached the people.
